2015 WAITS-MAST - Pinot Noir
Deer Meadows Vineyard, Anderson Valley
Situated at 1600 feet elevation, with a commanding south-east facing view of Anderson Valley, Rich Savoy’s vineyard off of Deer Meadows Road above Boonville is meticulously farmed in multiple blocks that are planted in a northwest orientation. In the 2015 vintage, we acquired three different clones of Pinot Noir, 115, 777 and Calera, to make just three barrels. The 2015 vintage was a low-yielding vintage across all of Anderson Valley and our usual one-acre contract with Deer Meadows yielded only 1.4 tons. Both clusters and berries were small, delivering more concentrated flavors.
The wine displays a beautiful medium garnet color, leading into an intense perfume of rose petals, ripe raspberry, sweet cherry tomato, and a touch of cedar. The palate exhibits red fruits, crushed violet, a touch of umami and zingy acidity with the fruit persisting through the finish. Beautiful right now, but the complexity of this vintage of Deer Meadows will continue to develop over the next 5-7 years.
